On October 1, 2004, MIBEL was established under the Santiago International Agreement, an Iberian market for electric power between the Kingdom of Spain and the Portuguese Republic. On January 18, 2008, an Agreement is signed in Braga that revises the Santiago Agreement and also the one signed between the Portuguese State and the Spanish State on March 8, 2007, specifically as regards the legal structure of the OMI group.
